Held on the 2nd weekend in August - Depot is open extended hours Friday evening from 7-9pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm
Our Old Settler's Celebration is a time for our whole community to get together and C-E-L-E-B-R-A-T-E! There is a morning Fun Run and walk, Bingo, a Beer Garden and several craft booths. "The Great Race" is a team relay where team members race on horses, tricycles, innertubes and feet to be the first to cross the finish line. The Car Show in Scout Park is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon and when you get hungry or thirsty there is always a vendor nearby to quench your thirst or satisfy your appetite. The highlight of the day has to be the Old Settler's Parade. The kids start out with the kiddie parade and prizes are given for the best costume or "float" in each age catagory. Then it is time for the adults with not only groups and organizations from the area, but also school alumni that have come back home to Halstead to meet their schoolmates from years past. Many High School class reunions are held during this time and a lot of them get together and make a float to be in the parade. The Cheerleaders are always on hand and the Marching Band always makes a beautiful music. There is also the nostalgic sound of horses hooves on the brick streets. Now that is a sound that you really do not hear everyday! The evening is topped off with fireworks in the beautiful summer night sky! What a way to end the summer season!
